This exceptional 1881 gold coin is a valuable testament to the splendor of France's Belle Époque era, a time of cultural flourishing and refined style.
The design side of the gold coin depicts a winged male figure writing down France's first democratic constitution. The figure is also known as "the winged genius". Below the motif is the writing "Duprés". The latter is best known for his work as an engraver and for designing coins. The Genius gold coin enjoys a reputation as a good luck charm, Duprés is also said to have saved the coin from death by guillotine.
