The Royal Mint, Europe's oldest mint, has been minting this silver bullion coin since 1997. With an elaborate minting process to prevent counterfeiting and its detailed processing, the Britannia is now one of the most popular bullion coins in Europe.
The Britannia coin is available for purchase as a gold coin and a silver coin. The gold coin is available in the sizes 1 ounce, ½ ounce, ¼ ounce and 1/10 ounce to buy. In the silver coins, on the other hand, there is only the ¼ ounce and the1 ounce. The fineness of the silver coin was set at 999/1000 in 2013.
The Royal Mint is the venerable mint of the United Kingdom of England. With a history of over 1100 years, it is the oldest mint in Europe. With the minting of the Sovereign coins and spreading to the colonies of that time, the English gold and silver coins still have a worldwide reputation and high tradeability. In recent decades, the Royal Mint has earned a high reputation among the public with the issuance of the Britannia bullion coin. The minting of the coin is improved and optimized every year. The coin has an incomparable luster, which is created by a special polish of the Royal Mint. The majestic figure Britannia represents the symbol and a national figure of the United Kingdom and is depicted on the motif side of the coin. The motif was created by the artist P. Nathan. Britannia holds an olive branch in her left hand, symbolizing peace, and in her right hand she holds a trident, which is meant to remind us of the sea's attachment to Great Britain. The shield to the right of Britannia represents protection and security.
The nominal side shows the portrait of King Charles III, with the words "CHARLES III D G REX F D" written around the image. The letters "F D" stand for "fidei defensor", which stands for "defender of the faith". Below the portrait is the face value of 2 British pounds.
Since 2021, the Britannia has been considered the most counterfeit-proof bullion coin in the world. Through four groundbreaking security features, the Royal Mint revolutionized bullion coin security. The latent feature is similar to a hologram on a euro bill. From one angle, you see a trident; turn the coin slightly and a security lock appears. In addition, a laser is used to engrave a detailed micro script on the edge of the coins. The saying is "decus et tutamen" which translates to "adornment and protection." The tincture lines on the shield are also considered a security feature. The lines are meant to represent colors and patterns, as in heraldry. In addition to these three features, elaborate surface animation is also imprinted in the background of the motif side.
